Our liberal arts curriculum was designed with your future in mind. Because of its emphasis on how to learn and not just what to learn, a liberal arts education prepares you not only for your first job but also for your last job. Our core curriculum exposes you to different disciplines and viewpoints, equips you with important skills and requires experiences that MC graduates say were invaluable to their education. Maryville College fulfills its purpose by preparing students to become lifelong learners. Students develop critical thinking skills and disciplinary expertise in an academic community. In and out of the classroom, students are called to apply their values and skills to their personal life, their vocation, and to serve others. By respectfully engaging a diverse and global community, students broaden their perspectives and increase their confidence and curiosity.
We offer a student-oriented environment, with small class sizes (average 14 students), and a student-faculty ratio of 12:1. Each student receives an Academic Advisor, and all classes are taught by experienced faculty.
Maryville College Works is an exciting new program that will help you determine what profession is right for you and what steps you need to take to get there. Incorporating career planning into all four years of the curriculum, the program includes a significant practical experience. And with the College's location and community partnerships, you could intern with employers such as the National Park Service, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Knoxville Museum of Art, ProNova Solutions and Blount Memorial Hospital! No matter what country you call home, Maryville College invites you to join our community and share your culture with us! Maryville College aims to offer a rich, full experience to students through a variety of opportunities and services both in and outside the classroom.
Maryville College is a residential college, which means that most students live on campus. Our beautiful, park-like campus has 9 residence halls (including co-ed, female-only and male-only halls). All rooms include furnishings & WiFi. Living on campus means that you are no more than a five-minute walk from classes and other campus activities. Living on campus allows students to make lifelong friends with fellow students and learn much more about U.S. culture and the way of life outside the classroom. Click here for more information on campus housing.
The campus offers sports facilities (tennis, soccer, baseball, football, volleyball, exercise rooms, etc) for students interested in becoming college athletes or exercising recreationally. Our unique Mountain Challenge Program gives students the opportunity to enjoy new challenges in the mountains, lakes, rivers and woods. Students interested in fine arts have access to state-of-the-art stages, art studios and rooms for music practice in our world-class Clayton Center for the Arts.
We offer more than 50 clubs and organizations. At Maryville you can try writing a thought-provoking column for the Highland Echo student newspaper, join the Dance Team, get involved in the Student Government Association or participate in the Global Citizenship Organization.
Service is an integral part of the Maryville College experience. Offering a variety of service opportunities provides students with a unique connection to our local, national, and global communities. Such a focus equips students with a vital perspective of civic engagement, community partnership, social responsibility, and many other life skills that will remain valuable after leaving Maryville College.
